So if you don’t fancy splashing the cash on pricey cleaning products, you’ll need to listen up, and give this trick a try[/caption]

But thankfully, a father has discovered a simple, homemade “weed killer recipe” which uses household ingredients and is perfect for driveways and paving areas.

In a Reddit forum, a user shared his dad’s weed killer DIY spray, which he claims can work its magic in “only 24 hours”.

Not only does it work fast, but the user explained that it is “much cheaper” than name-brand weed killer products.

Even better, the user also claimed that it “isn’t harmful to critters” either.

According to the savvy dad, all he does is mix three ingredients together – all of which you probably have in your cupboards already.

The dad uses a gallon of vinegar, a cup of salt and two tablespoons of washing-up liquid.

To ensure the mixture is as natural as possible, make sure to use an eco-friendly washing-up liquid.

All you need to do is simply mix the three ingredients together and pop them into a spray bottle ready to spray onto the affected areas.

Once you’ve sprayed your weed-ridden areas, you will then need to leave the solution to soak.

Thanks to the high percentage of acetic acid in vinegar, it works to dehydrate the weeds, which dries them up.

As well as this, salt also works to dehydrate the plants and disrupt the internal water balance of the plant’s cells.

Meanwhile, washing-up liquid works as a binder, helping the vinegar and salt to stick to the plant’s leaves.

Thanks to this affordable and effective combination, the pesky weeds should die.

Other weed hacks

OTHER cheap hacks to banish weeds from your garden for good.

BRUSH OFF: Gardening fans have raved about the Rolson Weed Brush, which you can buy from B&M.

One social media user commented: “This is my new friend. £4 from B&M”, whilst a second agreed: “I used one of these too and it’s brilliant. It removes the whole weed too.”

BAKE IT: Gardening enthusiasts have also praised baking soda for tackling weeds.

One man explained: ”What will then happen is the plants will absorb it, as they get damp when it starts to rain because they’re thirsty – because it’s been sunny. That’s nature’s way of killing it.”

WASH THIS: According to Sam Marlow, a gardening expert, washing powder is an affordable way to say goodbye to weeds.

He advised: “If you’re on a budget, there’s a cheap way to keep weeds at bay. If you want to remove persistent unwanted plants from paths or patios, try using washing powder. It’s a super easy way to banish weeds once and for all.”

Reddit users were thankful for the helpful advice and many took to the comments to express this.

One person said: “Thanks for this.”

Whilst another added: “Awesome recipe.”

If you fancy giving this trick a try and are on a budget, you can buy distilled vinegar from Tesco for just 35p.

Meanwhile, a large table salt will cost you just 65p from Morrisons.

And washing-up liquid is just 55p from Asda and Morrisons.
