I’m a vet tech – a dog I’d never own because I don’t have time for daily 5-mile hikes, another breed is a cancer machine

A VET tech has revealed the dogs she would never own, even if they make super-adorable pets.

One pooch has far too much energy, and she doesn’t have time for their daily five-mile hikes.

And another popular dog breed would only bring heartache because she said it is a cancer machine.

Reddit user lauraesh0384 shared her insight in a post and was brutally frank in her appraisals.

“It’s not that I hate these dogs, I just know that my lifestyle would make for a miserable life for some of the working breeds,” she said.

Some pooches are hampered from living full and healthy lives because of their sheer physiology.

Among these are the bulldog varieties that have experienced huge popularity in recent years.

At the top of her list was the French bulldog, and she pulled no punches.

“I would never own a Frenchie. They can’t breathe, and are not designed to live,” she said.

The lovable English bulldog’s scrunched-up face has become iconic, but it means it suffers from similar breathing problems to the Frenchie.

However, there are exceptions to the rule, she pointed out.

She adores the Labrador retriever. “They’re goofy, friendly, and amazingly smart,” she said.

Sadly, they are prone to different medical conditions, and she went as far as to describe them as “cancer machines.”

“If it’s not one organ, it’s another. Mouth to anus, inside and out. From mast cell tumors to Hemangiosarcoma and everything in between,” she said.

“My fragile heart can’t take that kind of heartache in that volume and frequency.”

Larger breeds tend to have shorter life spans, which is the case with the elegant Great Dane.

My back is too old to train them

The beautiful Husky’s lineage is as a working dog in freezing temperatures.

They are not suited for the tropics, she said. They also need plenty of exercise.

Rottweilers need good training and proper socialization from day one. Otherwise, they can be aggressive.

They are big dogs and can be prone to obesity if they are overfed. “My back is too old to train them,” she said.

The ultimate working dog, the Border collie, has boundless energy reserves.

Owners must be prepared to give these dogs adequate exercise, but it can be a real commitment.

It was a commitment too far for the vet tech, who said she had “no time for daily five-mile hikes.”

Japanese breeds like the Shiba, Jindo, or Akita are just as demanding.

They are also former working dogs and like plenty of exercise. But the vet tech figured she has “no time to train or socialize them properly.”
