Paint Colours

Taking to her YouTube channel @houseofvalentina, Valentina said that the colour of your walls is one of the first things that people notice when they walk into your home.

She said that the yellow and brown colours from the 60s and 70s are “extremely dated” and if you still have these on your walls, you need to change them.

The interior designer recommended sticking with white walls as “they never go out of style”.

Brass Door Knobs

Shiny brass door knobs look extremely dated, according to Valentina.

“They’ve got to go” she said.

The designer recommended using black or dark bronze door knobs.

“Something more modern, really makes a difference”, she said.

Cabinets

Valentina revealed that wooden cabinets from the 80s and 90s are very dated.

“Just throw them out”, she said.

The designer added that it you can’t afford to change your cabinets, you could just paint them white.

Cherry Furniture

The interior design pro said that most people don’t want cherry furniture, and are having to pay for people to get rid of it, as nobody wants it.

She said that instead, you should switch to furniture that has a matte finish.

“If you’re into it, then just hop online and take everybody else’s because they don’t want it!” she joked.

Wall to Wall Carpeting

Valentina said that wall to wall carpeting is “so unpleasant”.

She said that she had it in her house when she first moved in and “couldn’t get rid of it fast enough”.

The designer said that carpets just get so dusty and dirty and have to be replaced.

She suggested switching to tile or wood flooring instead.
