In her viral video, Christine (@eurekaorganicfarm) demonstrated the simple trick for her followers.

The TikToker used a 2×4 with premeasured holes spaced throughout to lay out her crops.

She placed a black tarp across the land where she planned to plant the onions.

Christine lined the piece of wood up on top of the tarp and used a blow torch to burn holes in the material.

The technique saved her time measuring out where to place the onions and allowed her to burn the evenly spaced holes in the tarp quickly.

After showing her viewers the speedy hack, Christine lifted her camera to reveal all the holes she had already burned.

She had even screwed a second piece of wood onto the plank at a 90-degree angle to create a handle.

This step meant that she could easily maneuver the 2×4 without having to bend over.

Using just her blowtorch and wooden plank, Christine spaced out all her onions evenly in her field.

The green-thumbed worker joked that using the blowtorch is “definitely a perk.”

She described some of the techniques she uses on her Vermont farm as “mildly chaotic.”

Her followers shared their thoughts on the hack in the comments section.

“Totally fast and effective, cauterized edge so you don’t have to deal with fibers pulling apart, gosh darn, why did I never think of that?” wrote one viewer.

“So beautiful, work smarter not harder,” said another impressed TikTok user.

“Running outside to do exactly this,” commented a third person.

  1. Banana peels, vinegar, and coffee grounds are often recommended as natural fertilizers.
  2. Dollar Tree sells four packs of seeds for $1.25.
  3. Try a vertical planter like Amazon’s Mr. Stacky 5 Tier Stackable Planter, $35 to make more use of a small space.
  4. Use netting like the Garden Netting Pest Barrier, $8, from Amazon to keep away bugs that eat your vegetables.
  5. Try sacrificial planting to reduce the use of pesticides and keep pests away from your garden. Deliberately growing certain plants to attract agricultural pests can keep them away from the plants you want to protect. Examples include marigolds, lavender, catnip, and chives.
  6. For pesky weeds in your garden, the Grampa’s Weeder – The Original Stand-Up Weed Puller Tool with Long Handles, $45, from Amazon is a helpful tool you can use without having to bend over.

“I have never seen or thought of this! Thanks for sharing the idea,” wrote another follower.

“Nice making short work of that task, very good thinking, thanks for sharing,” said one person.

The experts at Savvy Gardening broke down the vital role of spacing out your crops.

“Proper plant spacing is essential when growing vegetables,” they explained.

“Those planted too closely compete for water, sun, and nutrients, but planting too far apart wastes garden space and reduces yield.

“Tightly packed plants also limit air circulation which increases the risk of plant diseases.

“Getting the spacing right means healthy plants and larger harvests.”
