A BEAUTY guru has revealed the budget-friendly skincare routine that’s helped them defy the signs of aging.
They raved about a drugstore product being more effective than prescription anti-aging treatments.
The skincare recommendation was shared on Reddit’s 30 PlusSkinCare forum after a user in their late 30s asked for advice.
They complained about having laugh lines and “crinkly papery skin” despite regularly using moisturizer and a Nivea eye cream.
Redditor u/2rhinosin1yr_need3rd responded with the affordable products they swear by for a youthful appearance.
“A retinol product applied at night is the only product that will mitigate wrinkles and lines, religiously followed by daytime sunscreen and hats or umbrellas as additional sun protection,” they said.
“An OTC [over-the-counter] retinol product that I LOVE, even though I have multiple prescription retinoids, plus multiple other OTC retinol and acids is: Olay Retinol 24.”

The Olay product contains retinol and peptides, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and fine lines, and brighten skin.
The Redditor’s recommendation comes after a study published by the Journal of Investigative Dermatology in 2019 found that retinol improved the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and neck within eight weeks.
Participants in a previous study published by the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology saw a “significant reduction” in wrinkles after using retinol for 12 weeks.
Retinol is a type of retinoid that is derived from vitamin A.
It can be used to treat the signs of aging, uneven skin texture, acne, and hyperpigmentation, according to Healthline.

Experts recommend wearing SPF 15 or higher to reduce the risk of worsening the “drying and irritating” that comes with using retinol.
Beauty editor Lauren O’Connell previously revealed to The U.S. Sun that her age-defying appearance at 41 was achieved by starting to use retinol at age 36.
However, she confessed to having wished that she started gradually using the skincare ingredient sooner.
O’Connell said it takes three months to see a difference from consistently using vitamin C, retinol, and SPF.
