IT turns out that mother really does know best – at least when it comes to laundry.
According to one home organizing pro, her mom’s advice has given her pillows new life.

Perhaps the best part of the transformative trick is that it’s completely free.
You won’t need to invest in any new cleaning products to get the fluffiest pillows possible.
The method is also all-natural – no harsh toxins or chemicals are needed.
The organizing guru, who is known as @theklearcompany on Instagram, was curious if anyone else’s parents had taught them the same trick.
All you have to do is leave your pillows “in the sun,” she explained in her viral video.

For the best exposure to the sun’s rays, you just plop the pillow on top of a foldable clothes drying rack.
Mom’s advice is even backed by research.
According to Amerisleep, putting your pillow in the path of “direct sunlight” for “a few hours every three to six months” will give them a major refresher.
The sun’s rays instantly attack microorganisms, helping to eliminate all germs.
The search engine also provides results explaining how some “fresh air circulating through the pillow” will “fluff it naturally.”
The sun’s UV light provides a bacteria-killing property as well.
Many people were already fans of the tip – and use it for more than just pillows.
“The sunlight is a natural disinfectant,” said one Instagram user.
“My grandmother and great-grandmother would always have the men drag the mattresses out to the sun in the summer,” said another reader.
Yet others chimed in with their own additional suggestions.
“Good job! Also, it actually does not have to be a warm day. The absolute best is a cold and sunny day,” wrote one user.

Amazon Basics Foldable Laundry Rack, $28, Amazon
One user explained why this technique isn’t as common as perhaps it should be.
“I think we miss out on a lot of the sun’s benefits since we rarely line dry anymore – perhaps I’ll start,” said another.
If you don’t already have a drying rack, Amazon’s $27.84 bestselling Amazon Basics Foldable Laundry Rack should do the pillow fluffing trick.
The rack, made of lightweight steel, features an accordion-style design.
It is also described as providing “energy savings.”
Tips for fluffy soft towels
Morgan LaLonde, brand manager at Whirlpool, told The U.S. Sun how to get your towels soft and fluffy and keep them that way.
- Select a warm or hot water cycle on your washing machine because “if the wash cycle isn’t hot enough, towels can build up soapy residue that can also leave them feeling crunchy and stiff.”
- Don’t use too much detergent. LaLonde explained that “soapy residue can become difficult to wash out and lead to stiff or scratchy towels.”
- Avoid over-loading your washing machine and “allow the towels to move around and get thoroughly cleaned.”
- Select a low to medium heat on your dryer“because over-drying or high temperatures may cause damage.”
- Store in a cool dry place to “maintain a fresh and fluffy feeling.”
